When he had spoken these words, one of the police standing by gave him a blow with his hand, saying as he did so, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?" Jesus replied "If I have said anything wrong, give evidence concerning the wrong; but if I said what was true, why do you strike me?"
When he had thus spoken, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: "Father, the hour is come. Glorify the Son, that thy Son may glorify thee; since thou hast given him authority over all mankind, to give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him. I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with own self, with the glory I had with thee before the world began. For he whom God sent utters the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit sparingly. the Father loves the Son and has committed everything into his hands.

My first account, O Theophilus, dealt with all that Jesus began doing and teaching from the beginning down to the day when, after giving instructions through the Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up to heaven. After his sufferings he had also shown himself alive to them in many convincing manifestations, revealing himself to them during forty days, and speaking of the kingdom of God.
