death » Preparation for
And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man's work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear:
We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Jehovah, make me to know mine end, And the measure of my days, what it is; Let me know how frail I am.
In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.
For to him that is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
For we have not here an abiding city, but we seek after the city which is to come.
Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, That they would consider their latter end!
Oh spare me, that I may recover strength, Before I go hence, and be no more.
So teach us to number our days, That we may get us a heart of wisdom.
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither thou goest.
Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun. Yea, if a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: The father to the children shall make known thy truth.
Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning; and be ye yourselves like unto men looking for their lord, when he shall return from the marriage feast; that, when he cometh and knocketh, they may straightway open unto him. Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and shall come and serve them.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that.

Joy » Of the wicked
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; And the end of mirth is heaviness.
That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the godless but for a moment?
And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced because of all my labor; and this was my portion from all my labor.
For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.
And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither joyful noise: no treader shall tread out wine in the presses; I have made the vintage'shout to cease.
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Folly is joy to him that is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding maketh straight his going.
Yea, if a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity. Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced because of all my labor; and this was my portion from all my labor.
