And he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses, his chosen, stood before him in the breach, to turn away his fury, lest he should destroy them.

And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. And Moses said, Consecrate yourselves to-day to Jehovah, yea, every man with his son, and with his brother, and bring on yourselves a blessing to-day. Forty years was I grieved with the generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways; So that I swore in mine anger, that they should not enter into my rest.
