The Book of Beginnings

Book Summary:

Genesis is the book of origins, it is the beginning of everything, the seed plot of the Bible. The beginning of man, marriage, sin, death, nations, languages, and Israel. It describes the beginning of life and the beginning of death – “it begins with God but ends in a coffin.” Satan has attacked this books foundation – for in it he is shown for what he is - the enemy of God, the deceiver doomed for destruction. Three words describe the outline of genesis – generation – degeneration – and regeneration. God meets the failures of the human history portrayed here with his overwhelming grace, that is the beginning of His plan of redemption.

The first eleven chapters focus on the history of the whole universe. In chapter 12 God focuses in on one man's family - Abraham, from whom the nation of Israel will come from. After a backdrop of the entire history of the human race God focuses in on one man – Abraham and his family. With him he makes a covenant which God says all the nations of the earth will be blessed through! Genesis ends with Joseph – for he is the link between the family and the nation.

Adam was made in perfect fellowship with God , there circumstances were favorable to choose God, to choose God they just had to believe him for they were in a state of innocence. After yielding to temptation sin entered the world, the ground cursed and sorrow entering the hearts. However the love of God is stronger than death and the first prophecy of the coming messiah is told (Genesis 3:15) – God’s plan of redemption begins. So Genesis is the beginning of God's plan of redemption in Christ, which is prophesied through "the seed of the women" (Genesis 3:15), and then through Abrahams seed (Genesis 12)
