But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying: Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel; for they are dead who sought the young child's life. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of Herod his father, he was afraid to go thither. But being warned in a dream, he with drew into the regions of Galilee, and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets: He shall be called a Nazarene.

And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher; she was of great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity: and she was a widow of about eighty-four years, and she departed not from the temple, but served, day and night, with fastings and prayers. And she came in at that hour, and gave thanks to Lord, and spoke of him to all that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.


And it came to pass in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the inhabitants of the land should be enrolled. This enrollment first took place when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each one to his own city. read more.
