And on the morrow, wishing to know the certainty that why he was accused by the Jews, he loosed him from bonds, and commanded the chief priests and the whole of their council to come, and having brought down Paul, he set him among them.
And Paul, having looked intently to the council, said, Men, brethren, I have lived as a citizen in all good conscience to God till this day. And the chief priest Ananias commanded those standing by him to strike his month. And they standing by said, Revilest thou God's chief priest? And Paul said, I knew not, brethren, that he is chief priest: for it has been written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
