Isaiah 2:1 (show verse)

The message that Amoz's son Isaiah received concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

Isaiah 2:2 (show verse)

"It will come about in the last days that the mountain that is the LORD's Temple will be established as the highest of mountains, and will be raised above the hills; all the nations will stream to it.

Isaiah 2:3 (show verse)

Many groups of people will come, commenting, "Come! Let's go up to the Temple of the God of Jacob, that they may teach us his ways. Then let's walk in his paths." "Instruction will proceed from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Isaiah 2:4 (show verse)

He will judge between the nations, and will render verdicts for the benefit of many. "They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nations will not raise swords against nations, and they will not learn warfare anymore.

Isaiah 2:5 (show verse)

"You house of Jacob! Come! Let's live in the LORD's light.

Isaiah 2:6 (show verse)

For you have rejected your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled with practices learned from the East and they are fortune-tellers like the Philistines. They cut deals with foreigners.

Isaiah 2:7 (show verse)

Their land is filled with silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; their land is filled with horses, and there is no end to their chariots.

Isaiah 2:8 (show verse)

Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made.

Isaiah 2:9 (show verse)

"So mankind is humbled, each human being is brought low, and you won't forgive."

Isaiah 2:10 (show verse)

"Go into the rocks! Hide in the dust to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the glory of his majesty!

Isaiah 2:11 (show verse)

The haughty looks of mankind will be brought low, the lofty pride of human beings will be humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted at that time.

Isaiah 2:12 (show verse)

"For the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has reserved a time to oppose all who are proud and haughty, and the self-exalting they will be humbled.

Isaiah 2:13 (show verse)

He will take his stand against all the cedars of Lebanon, against the proud and self-exalting; and against all the oaks of Bashan;

Isaiah 2:14 (show verse)

against all the high mountains, and against all the lofty hills;

Isaiah 2:15 (show verse)

against every high tower, and against every fortified wall;

Isaiah 2:16 (show verse)

against all the ships from Tarshish, and against all their impressive watercraft.

Isaiah 2:17 (show verse)

"Humanity's haughtiness will be humbled, male arrogance will be brought low, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

Isaiah 2:18 (show verse)

Their idols will utterly vanish.

Isaiah 2:19 (show verse)

"They will enter caverns in the rocks and holes in the ground to escape the presence of the terror of the LORD, to escape the splendor of his majesty when he arises to terrify the earth.

Isaiah 2:20 (show verse)

At that time, mankind will throw their silver and gold idols that their fingers have made as objects of worship to the moles and to the bats.

Isaiah 2:21 (show verse)

They will enter caverns in the rocks and clefts in the cliffs, to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the splendor of his majesty, when he arises to terrorize the earth.

Isaiah 2:22 (show verse)

"Stop trusting in human beings, whose life breath is in their nostrils, for what are they really worth?"
