Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.

He deviseth iniquity upon his bed; He setteth himself in a way that is not good; He abhorreth not evil.

He that deviseth to do evil, Men shall call him a mischief-maker.

But they say, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart.



Do they not err that devise evil? But mercy and truth'shall be to them that devise good.

He that shutteth his eyes, it is to devise perverse things: He that compresseth his lips bringeth evil to pass.

And the instruments of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the meek with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.

And he said unto me, Son of man, these are the men that devise iniquity, and that give wicked counsel in this city;


Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain: whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that. read more.
But now ye glory in your vauntings: all such glorying is evil.

And Jehovah smelled the sweet savor; and Jehovah said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake, for that the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more everything living, as I have done.


The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it? I, Jehovah, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as it were an error which proceedeth from the ruler: folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place. I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking like servants upon the earth.
