You shall have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off.

Wash yourself therefore, and anoint yourself, and put your best clothes upon you, and get down to the floor: but make not yourself known unto the man, until he shall have finished eating and drinking.

Now when every maiden's turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after she had been there twelve months, according to the regulations for the women, (for so were the days of their beautification accomplished, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes, and with other preparations for beautifying women;)

But my horn shall you exalt like the horn of a wild ox: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be against their evil.

Whosoever restrains her restrains the wind, or grasps oil with his right hand.

Because of the fragrance of your good ointments your name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love you.

How fair is your love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is your love than wine! and the fragrance of your perfume than all spices!

And you went to the king with ointment, and did increase your perfumes, and did send your messengers far off, and did debase yourself even unto sheol.

That drink wine in bowls, and anoint yourselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall tread the olives, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil; and make sweet wine, but shall not drink wine.

Wash yourself therefore, and anoint yourself, and put your best clothes upon you, and get down to the floor: but make not yourself known unto the man, until he shall have finished eating and drinking.

And said, I cried by reason of my affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of sheol cried I, and you heard my voice.

Yea also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as sheol, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers unto him all nations, and heaps unto him all people:

And you went to the king with ointment, and did increase your perfumes, and did send your messengers far off, and did debase yourself even unto sheol.

And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to sheol with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

Yet you shall be brought down to sheol, to the sides of the pit.

Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with sheol are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then you shall be beaten down by it.

Sheol from beneath is excited for you to meet you at your coming: it stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

Therefore sheol has enlarged itself, and opened its mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that exults, shall descend into it.

I made the nations to shake at the sound of its fall, when I cast it down to sheol with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth. They also went down into sheol with it with them that are slain with the sword; and they that were its arm, that dwelt under its shadow in the midst of the nations.

The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of sheol with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

Though they dig into sheol, there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, there will I bring them down:

And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had let them be naked unto their shame among their enemies:)

And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit harlotry with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. And Israel joined itself unto Baal of Peor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

Among the smooth stones of the stream is your portion; they, they are your lot: even to them have you poured a drink offering, you have offered a grain offering. Should I receive comfort in these?

Behind the doors also and the doorposts have you set up your symbol: for you have uncovered yourself to another than me, and have gone up; you have enlarged your bed, and made you a covenant with them; you loved their bed where you saw it. And you went to the king with ointment, and did increase your perfumes, and did send your messengers far off, and did debase yourself even unto sheol.

What profits the graven image that its maker has shaped it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make dumb idols? Woe unto him that says to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.

Has a nation changed its gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit.

They that make a graven image are all of them nothing; and their precious things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. Who fashions a god, or molds a graven image, that is profitable for nothing?

But draw near here, you sons of the sorceress, the descendants of the adulterer and the harlot. Against whom do you make sport? against whom do you open your mouth wide, and stick out the tongue? are you not children of transgression, offspring of falsehood, Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clefts of the rocks? read more.
Among the smooth stones of the stream is your portion; they, they are your lot: even to them have you poured a drink offering, you have offered a grain offering. Should I receive comfort in these? Upon a lofty and high mountain have you set your bed: even there you went up to offer sacrifice. Behind the doors also and the doorposts have you set up your symbol: for you have uncovered yourself to another than me, and have gone up; you have enlarged your bed, and made you a covenant with them; you loved their bed where you saw it. You are wearied in the length of your way; yet you said not, There is no hope: you have found the life of your own hand; therefore you were not grieved. And of whom have you been afraid or feared, that you have lied, and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and you fear me not? I will declare your righteousness, and your works; for they shall not profit you.

O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the nations shall come unto you from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit. Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own life? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his life?

Again, you shall say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that gives any of his children unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.

Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father. But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yea, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel.

Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father: For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim. Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the nations which the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
