But Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

their unfaithful deeds numerous.

Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but there is darkness; for brightness, but we live in the night. We grope along a wall like the blind; we grope like those without eyes. We stumble at noon as though it were twilight; [we are] like the dead among those who are healthy. We all growl like bears and moan like doves. We hope for justice, but there is none; for salvation, [but] it is far from us.

They take hold of deceit;

how much more will the blood of the Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to serve the living God?

Save me from the guilt of bloodshed, God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing of Your righteousness.

For our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities: transgression and deception against the Lord, turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering lying words from the heart. Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far off. For truth has stumbled in the public square, and honesty cannot enter.

When they heard this, they came under deep conviction and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: “Brothers, what must we do?”
through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared.
To the pure, everything is pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; in fact, both their mind and conscience are defiled.
