They trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches. Yet these cannot redeem a person or pay his ransom to God-

God’s faithful love is constant.

“It’s worthless, it’s worthless!” the buyer says,

The man who boasts about a gift that does not exist
is like clouds and wind without rain.



But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.



Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will travel to such and such a city and spend a year there and do business and make a profit." You don't even know what tomorrow will bring-what your life will be! For you are a bit of smoke that appears for a little while, then vanishes. Instead, you should say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." read more.

When the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, He said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, even though man’s inclination is evil from his youth. And I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done.

For My people have committed a double evil:
They have abandoned Me,
the fountain of living water,
and dug cisterns for themselves,
cracked cisterns that cannot hold water.

The heart is more deceitful than anything else and desperately sick-who can understand it? I, the Lord, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.

The scoundrel’s weapons are destructive;
he hatches plots to destroy the needy with lies,
even when the poor says what is right.


This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: there is one fate for everyone. In addition, the hearts of people are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live—after that they go to the dead.

There is an evil I have seen under the sun, an error proceeding from the presence of the ruler: The fool is appointed to great heights, but the rich remain in lowly positions. I have seen slaves on horses, but princes walking on the ground like slaves.
