And the outermost cities of the tribe of the sons of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,

So I went in and saw, and, behold, every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about.

Their land is also full of idols. They worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made,


Assemble yourselves and come, draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations. They have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray to a god that cannot save.

And LORD said to the sons of Israel, [Did] not [I save you] from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines? The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you. And ye cried to me, and I saved you out of their hand. Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods. Go and cry to the gods which ye have chosen. Let them save you in the time of your distress.

Thou are wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the star-gazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from the things that shall come upon thee.

And he will say, Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge, which ate the fat of their sacrifices, [and] drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let them rise up and help you, let them be your protection.

Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

Such as lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, they hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god. They fall down, yea, they worship. They bear it upon the shoulder. They carry it, and set it in its place, and it stands. From its place it shall not remove. Yea, he may cry to it, yet it cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

Yet I am LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shall know no god but me, and besides me there is no savior. I knew thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. Therefore I am to them as a lion. As a leopard I will watch by the way. I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart. And there I will devour them like a lioness. The wild beast shall tear them. It is thy destruction, O Israel, that [thou are] against me, against thy help. Where now is thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities, and thy judges, of whom thou said, Give me a king and rulers? I have given thee a king in my anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.
