That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we gazed upon, and our hands handled, concerning the Word of Life (and the Life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you The Eternal Life; Who, indeed, was with the Father, and was manifested to us); that which we have seen and heard we declare to you also, that ye also may have fellow-ship with us; and our fellowship also is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.

In Him was Life; and the Life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a testimony, that he might testify concerning the Light, that all might believe through him. He was not the Light; but he came, that he might testify concerning the Light. He was the true Light That lighteth every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world knew Him not. He came to His own possessions, and those who were His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those believing in His name; who were born, not of bloods, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh, and tabernacled among us, (and we beheld His glory??lory as of the Only Begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth. John testifies concerning Him, and has cried, saying, "This was He of Whom I said, 'He That cometh after me hath become before me, because He was before me;'" because out of His fulness we all received, and grace for grace: because the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, Who is in the bosom of the Father, He declared Him.

And out of His mouth proceeds a sharp sword, that with it He may smite the nations, and He will govern them with a rod of iron; and He treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness of the wrath of God, the Almighty.
