Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the country about the Jordan; and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. But John opposed him, saying, I have need to be baptized by thee, and dost thou come to me? And Jesus answering said to him, Suffer it now; for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him. read more.
And Jesus, as soon as he was baptized, went up from the water; and, lo! the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God, descending like a dove, coming upon him.

The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven, or from men? And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him?

John the Baptizer appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit. And it came to pass that in those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately on coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens parted, and the Spirit descending as a dove upon him.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me.

He said therefore to the multitudes that came forth to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

And there came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what must we do?

And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened,

And all the people when they heard him, and the publicans, acknowledged God as righteous by being baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God toward themselves, not being baptized by him.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?

and they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet? John answered them, saying, I baptize in water. There standeth one among you whom ye know not,

These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.


And I knew him not; but he who sent me to baptize in water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, he it is that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.

And John also was baptizing in Aenon, near Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.

And he went away again beyond the Jordan, to the place where John was at first baptizing; and there he abode.


Ye yourselves know what was spoken of through the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached,

And I remembered the word of the Lord, that he said, John indeed baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into Johns baptism. Then said Paul, John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people, that they should believe on him that was coming after him; that is, on Jesus.

And John, having heard in the prison of the works of Christ, sent by his disciples,

And his disciples came and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

And the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting; and they come and say to him, Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, and thy disciples fast not?

And they said to him, The disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise those of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink.

And the disciples of John told him all these things.

Then there arose a question on the part of Johns disciples with a Jew about purifying.
