Beginning from the baptism of John, to that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region about Jordan, And were baptized by him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? read more.
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:


Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said to him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him. read more.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, if we shall say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him?

John was baptizing in the wilderness, and preaching the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins. And there went out to him all the land of Judea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

I indeed have baptized you with water: but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth to Galilee, and was baptized by John in Jordan. And immediately coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me.

Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized by him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father: for I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Master, what shall we do?

Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?

And they asked him, and said to him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou art not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet? John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth with the Holy Spirit.

And John also was baptizing in Enon, near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

And went again beyond Jordan, into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.


That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

And he said to them, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people, That they should believe on him who should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

And the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees, used to fast: and they come, and say to him, Why do the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

And they said to him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

And the disciples of John informed him of all these things.

Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews, about purifying.
