Now the princes of the priests and the elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; but found none; though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses who said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days. read more.
And the high priest arose and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing to what these witness against thee? But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said it; nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He has spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. Then they spit in his face and buffeted him, and others smote him with the staves, saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ; who is he that smote thee?

We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. But neither so did their witness agree together. So the high priest, standing up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing to what these witness against thee? But he was silent and answered nothing. And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to buffet him and to say unto him, Prophesy. And the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.

And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the princes of the priests and the scribes came together and led him into their council, saying, Art thou the Christ? tell us. Then they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I AM. And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples and of his doctrine. Ask those who heard me what I have said unto them; behold, they know what I said.

And they brought Jesus to the high priest, and with him were assembled all the princes of the priests and the elders and the scribes. When the morning was come, all the princes of the priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death, and when they had bound him, they led him away and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

Then Pilate, calling together the princes of the priests and the rulers and the people, said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me as one that perverts the people; and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things of which ye accuse him; no, nor yet Herod, for I sent you to him; and, behold, he has done nothing worthy of death. read more.
I will therefore chastise him and release him. (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.) And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas (who for a certain sedition made in the city and for murder was cast into prison). Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spoke again to them. But they cried, saying, crucify him, crucify him. And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil has he done? I have found no cause of death in him; I will therefore chastise him and let him go. And they insisted with loud voices, asking that he be crucified. And the voices of them and of the princes of the priests prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence that it should be according to their request.

And those that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. But Peter followed him afar off unto the patio of the high priest and went in and sat with the servants to see the end. And immediately while he yet spoke, the cock crew. Then the Lord turned and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord how he had said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. And Peter went out and wept bitterly. And the men that held Jesus mocked him and smote him. And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple; that disciple was known unto the high priest and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. But Peter stood at the door without. Then that other disciple, who was known unto the high priest, went out and spoke unto her that kept the door and brought in Peter. And the slaves and servants stood there, who had made a fire of coals, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves; and Peter stood with them and warmed himself. And when he had thus spoken, one of the servants who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil, but if well, why dost thou smite me? Thus Annas sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it and said, I am not. One of the slaves of the high priest, kinsman of the one whose ear Peter had cut off, said, Did I not see thee in the garden with him? Peter then denied again, and immediately the cock crew. Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment, and it was early; and they themselves did not go into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the passover. Pilate then went out unto them and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. Then Pilate said unto them, Take him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death; that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.

And while he yet spoke, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the princes of the priests and elders of the people. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, why art thou come? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took him. And, behold, one of those who was with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a slave of the high priest and smote off his ear. Then Jesus said unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place, for all those that take the sword shall perish by the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be? In that same hour Jesus said to the multitude, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. But all this was done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him and fled. And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him and said unto those that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. And after a while those that stood by came unto him and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them, for thy speech makes thee manifest. And he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know this man of whom ye speak. And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the words that Jesus had said unto him, Before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times. And thinking on this, he wept.

And while he yet spoke, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. And one of them smote the slave of the prince of the priests and cut off his right ear. And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear and healed him. When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Then they took him and led him and brought him into the house of the prince of the priests. And Peter followed afar off. Judas then, taking a company of soldiers and ministers of the high priests and of the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons. Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said unto them, I AM. And Judas also, who betrayed him, stood with them. read more.
And when he said unto them, I AM, they went backward and fell to the ground. Then he asked them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus answered, I have told you that I AM; if, therefore, ye seek me, let these go away, that the word might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Of those whom thou gavest me I have lost none. Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and smote the high priest's slave and cut off his right ear. The slave's name was Malchus. Then Jesus said unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath; the cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it? Then the company of soldiers and the tribune and the ministers of the Jews took Jesus and bound him and led him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest of that year and he sent him bound unto Caiaphas, the high priest. Now Caiaphas was he who had given the counsel to the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again and called Jesus and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it unto thee of me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me; what hast thou done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews; now, therefore, my kingdom is not from here. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I AM king. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice. Pilate said unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and said unto them, I find no fault at all in him. But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover; will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? Then they all cried again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

And it came to pass in Iconium that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews and so spoke, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

He said these things in the synagogue as he taught in Capernaum.

And when they arrived at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they also had John as an attendant.

And he came to Ephesus and left them there, but he himself entered into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews gather; and I have said nothing in secret.

Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews gather; and I have said nothing in secret.

And they returned to Jerusalem, and as he was walking in the temple, the princes of the priests and the scribes and the elders came and said unto him, By what faculty doest thou these things? and who gave thee this faculty to do these things? Then Jesus, answering, said unto them, I will also ask of you one word, and respond unto me, and I will tell you with what faculty I do these things. read more.
The baptism of John, was it of heaven or of men? Respond unto me. Then they thought inside themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? But if we shall say, Of men, we fear the people, for everyone judged regarding John that he truly was a prophet. And answering, they said unto Jesus, We do not know. And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Neither shall I tell you with what faculty I do these things.

And answering, Jesus said, while he taught in the temple, How do the scribes say that the Christ is Son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Spirit, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore himself calls him Lord, and where then is he his son? And the many people heard him gladly. read more.
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing and love the salutations in the marketplaces and the first chairs in the synagogues and the first seats at the suppers, which devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater judgment. And with Jesus sitting in front of the ark of the offering, he beheld how the people cast money into the ark and many that were rich cast in much. And as there came a certain poor widow, she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. Then calling his disciples, he said unto them, Verily I say unto you that this poor widow has cast more in than all those who have cast into the treasury, for they all did cast in of their abundance, but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not, but it is this way that the scriptures might be fulfilled.

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole; sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole. And for this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him: because he had done these things on a sabbath. read more.
But Jesus answered them, My Father works until now, and I work.

Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marvelled, saying, How does this man know letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. read more.
If anyone desires to do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it is of God or whether I speak of myself. He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory, but he that seeks the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do ye go about to kill me? The people answered and said, Thou hast a demon; who goes about to kill thee? Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. If a man on the sabbath day receives circumcision without the law of Moses being broken, are ye angry at me because I have made a man entirely whole on the sabbath day? Judge not according to the appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. Then one of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill? But, behold, he speaks boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Have the rulers truly understood that this is indeed the Christ? But we know where this man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one shall know where he is from. Then Jesus cried out in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye know me, and ye know from where I come, but I have not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. Then the Jews came round about him and said unto him, Until when wilt thou hold our soul in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I have told you, and ye do not believe; the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. read more.
But ye believe not because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we do not stone thee, but for blasphemy; and because thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods unto whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken), do ye say of him whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God? If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me. But if I do, though ye do not believe me, believe the works that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in him.
