Although it was now evening, a rich man named Joseph, from Arimathea, who was himself a disciple of Jesus, came to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. So Joseph took the body and wrapped it in clean linen, read more.
and laid it in a tomb of his, which he had cut out of the rock, and he rolled a big boulder over the doorway of the tomb, and went away. And Mary of Magdala and the other Mary kept sitting there in front of the tomb. On the next day, which is the day after the Preparation Day, the high priests and Pharisees met and went in a body to Pilate, and said, "Sir, we remember that that pretender said while He was living, 'After three days I will rise again.' Issue an order then to have the tomb closely guarded, so that His disciples cannot come and steal Him and tell the people that He rose from the dead, and the last deception be worse than the first." Pilate said to them, "Take the military guard and go and make it as secure as you can." So off they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the boulder and setting a guard.

Although it was now evening, yet since it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a highly honored member of the council, who was himself looking for the kingdom of God, ventured to go to Pilate and ask for Jesus' body. Pilate wondered whether He was dead yet, and calling the captain to him asked whether He was already dead; read more.
but when he found out from the captain that He was, he gave him permission to take His body. So he bought a linen sheet, then took Him down from the cross, wrapped Him in the linen sheet, and laid Him in a tomb that had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a boulder up to the doorway of the tomb. And Mary of Magdala and Mary, Joses' mother, were looking on to see where He was put.

Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the council, a good and upright man, who had not voted for the plan and action of the council. He came from a Jewish town, Arimathea, and he was waiting for the kingdom of God. He went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. read more.
Then he took it down from the cross and wrapped it in a linen sheet and laid it in a tomb hewn out of rock, where no one had yet been laid. It was the Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was just beginning. So the women, who had come with Jesus from Galilee, followed closely after Joseph and saw the tomb and how His body was laid there. Then they went back home, and prepared spices and perfumes.

As it was the day of Preparation for the Passover, that the bodies might not remain on the crosses during the Sabbath, for that Sabbath was a very important one, the Jews requested Pilate to have their legs broken and their bodies taken down. So the soldiers went and broke the legs of the first man and of the other one who had been crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus, as they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs, read more.
but one of the soldiers thrust a lance into His side and blood and water at once flowed out. The man who saw it has testified to it -- and his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth -- in order that you too may come to believe it. For this took place that this Scripture might be fulfilled, "Not a bone of His will be broken." And again another Scripture says, "They shall look at Him whom they pierced." After this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one because of his fear of the Jews, asked permission of Pilate to remove the body of Jesus, and Pilate granted it. So he went and removed His body. Now Nicodemus also, who had formerly come to Jesus at night, went and took a mixture of myrrh and aloes that weighed about one hundred pounds. So they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in bandages with the spices, in accordance with the Jewish custom of preparing a body for burial. There was a garden at the place where Jesus had been crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So, because it was the Jewish Preparation day and because the tomb was near by, they laid Him there.
