As he was thus speaking, one of the servants who stood by him gave Jesus a slap on the face, saying, Dost thou answer the high-priest in this fashion? Jesus replied to him, If I have spoken in an improper manner, bear witness of the evil deed: but if properly, why strikest thou me?
THESE things spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son may glorify thee: even as thou hast given him authority over all flesh, that with regard to all those whom thou hast given him, he should give to them eternal life: and this is eternal life, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou hast sent, Jesus, the Messiah. read more.
I have glorified thee upon earth: I have completed the work which thou gavest me to perform. And now, Father, do thou glorify me with thyself in the glory which I held with thee before the world was. When I was with them in the world, I preserved them by thy name: those whom thou hast given me have I guarded, and not one of them is perished, except the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to thee; and I am speaking these things in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
