But now he has made me weary: you have made desolate all my company. And you have filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me bears witness to my face. They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me. God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked. I was at ease, but he has broken me asunder: he has also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. His archers surround me, he slashes my kidneys asunder, and does not spare; he pours out my gall upon the ground. He breaks me with breach upon breach, he runs upon me like a warrior. The waters surrounded me, even to the soul: the deep closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. I went down to the foundations of the mountains; the earth with her bars closed about me forever: yet have you brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto you, into your holy temple. They that regard vain idols forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto you with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
