For just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For just as in the days before the Flood people went on eating and drinking, marrying and being married, until the very day Noah entered the ark, and knew nothing about it until the Flood came and swept them all away, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. read more.
Two men will be in the field; one will be taken, one will be left. Two women will be grinding with the handmill; one will be taken, one will be left. So keep on watching, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the master of the house had known in exactly what part of the night the thief would come, he would have been on guard and would not have let his house be broken into. So you, too, must continue to be ready, for at an hour you are not expecting Him the Son of Man will come. "Who then is the faithful and thoughtful slave, whom his master put in charge of his household, to deal out to the members of it their supplies at the proper time? Blessed is that slave if, when his master comes back, he finds him so doing. I solemnly say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if the slave is bad and says to himself, 'My master is going to be gone a long time,' and begins to beat his fellow-slaves, and keeps on eating and drinking with those who get drunk, the master of that slave will come on the very day he is not expecting him, and will cut him in two, and give him his share with the hypocrites, where they will weep and grind their teeth."

And just as it was in the time of Noah, so it will be in the time of the Son of Man. People continued to eat, drink, marry, and be married, right up to the day when Noah went into the ark, and the Flood came and destroyed them all. It was so in the time of Lot; people continued to eat, drink, buy, sell, plant, and build; read more.
and the very day Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. It will be so on the day when the Son of Man appears The man who is on the roof of his house that day, and his goods in the house, must not come down to carry them out; and the man in the field, too, must not turn back. Remember Lot's wife! Whoever tries to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will preserve it. I tell you, two men will be in the same bed that night; one will be taken, the other left. Two women will be grinding together; one will be taken, the other left." Omitted Text. Then they asked Him, "Where, Lord, will this be?" And He said to them, "Wherever there is carrion the vultures will flock."

But about that day or hour not a single one knows -- not even the angels in heaven or the Son; not a single one but the Father alone. "So when you see the destructive desecration, mentioned by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Holy Place" -- let the reader take notice --

As He approached it, just as soon as He saw the city, He burst into tears over it, and said: "If today you yourself had only known the conditions of peace! But now they are hidden from you. For a time is coming upon you when your enemies will throw up earthworks around you and surround you and hem you in on all sides, read more.
and they will throw you and your children within you to the ground, and they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know when God visited you."

"When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, then understand that her devastation is near. Then let those in Judea begin to fly to the mountains, and those within the city begin to get out of it, for these are the days of vengeance when all that is written in the Scriptures will be fulfilled. read more.
Alas for the women who are pregnant and those who have nursing babies in those days! For there will be great misery in the land and wrath on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and will be carried off as captives among all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled under the feet of the heathen, until the times of the heathen come to full measure.

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem! The city that has kept on murdering the prophets, and stoning those who have been sent to her, how often I have yearned to gather your children around me, as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, but you refused! Now your house is abandoned by me!

"So when you see the destructive desecration standing where he has no right to stand" -- let the reader take notice -- "then let those who remain in Judea fly to the hills; let him who is on the roof of his house not go down and go into the house to get anything out of it; let him who is in the field not turn back to get his coat. read more.
Alas for the women who are expectant mothers and those who have nursing babies, in those days! And pray that it may not be in winter, for there will be such misery at that time as has never been since the beginning of God's creation, and never will be again. If the Lord had not cut those days short, nobody would have escaped, but for the sake of the people chosen as His own He has cut them short. "If anyone says to you at that time, 'Look! Here is the Christ,' or, 'Look! There He is,' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will announce themselves, and they will do signs and wonders to mislead, if possible, even God's chosen people. So you must be on your guard. I have warned you about it all beforehand.

Now your house is abandoned to its fate! And I tell you, you will never see me again until you say, 'Blessed be He who comes in the name of the Lord!'"

Now, when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with visible display, and so people will not say, 'Look! Here it is,' nor, 'There it is,' for the kingdom of God is within you." Then He said to His disciples, "The time will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. read more.
And men will say to you, 'Look! There he is!' or, 'Look! Here He is!' Do not start in pursuit of Him, for just as when the lightning flashes, it shines from one end of the sky to the other, so will the Son of Man be when He comes. But first He has to endure much suffering, and be disowned by this age. And just as it was in the time of Noah, so it will be in the time of the Son of Man.
