beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection.

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet? John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,
And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water.
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.
And John also was baptizing in Enon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
And he went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was at the first baptizing; and there be abode.

And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellows and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn. For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her works.
