So you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but you are fellow-citizens of God's people and members of His family; for you are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself the cornerstone.

The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the Lamb's twelve apostles.

When He saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain. After He had taken His seat, His disciples came up to Him. Then He opened His mouth and continued to teach them as follows: "Blessed are those who feel poor in spiritual things, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. read more.
"Blessed are the mourners, for they will be comforted. "Blessed are the lowly in mind, for they will possess the land. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for being and doing right, for they will be completely satisfied. "Blessed are those who show mercy, for they will have mercy shown them. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called God's sons. "Blessed are those who suffer persecution for being and doing right, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. "Blessed are you when people abuse you, and persecute you, and keep on falsely telling all sorts of evil against you for my sake. Keep on rejoicing and leaping for ecstasy, for your reward will be rich in heaven; for this is the way they persecuted the prophets who lived before you. "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its strength, what can make it salt again? It is good for nothing but to be thrown away and trodden under foot. You are the light of the world. A city that is built upon a hill cannot be hidden. People do not light a lamp and put it under a peck-measure but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all that are in the house. Let your light shine before people in such a way that they may see your good deeds, and praise your Father in heaven.

While He was still speaking to the crowds, His mother and His brothers had taken their stand outside, trying hard to get to speak to Him. Omitted Text. But He answered the man who told Him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" read more.
And with a gesture toward His disciples He said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my mother and sister and brother."

Then Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for it is not man that made this known to you, but my Father in heaven. And I, yes I, tell you, your name from now on is to be Peter, Rock, and on a massive rock like this I will build my church, and the powers of the underworld shall never overthrow it.

Then His mother and His brothers came. They were standing outside and sent word to call Him. And a crowd was sitting around Him when they told Him, "Your mother and your brothers are outside asking for you." He answered them, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" read more.
Then looking around at the people sitting about Him, He said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."

For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on exhibition at the disgraced end of the procession, as they do with men who are doomed to die in the arena. For we have become a spectacle to the universe, to angels as well as men. For Christ's sake we are held as fools, while you through union with Christ are men of wisdom. We are weak; you are strong. You are held in honor; we in dishonor. To this very hour we have gone hungry, thirsty, poorly clad; we have been roughly knocked around; we have had no home. read more.
We have worked hard with our own hands for a living. When abused by people, we bless them. When persecuted, we patiently bear it. When we are slandered by them, we try to conciliate them. To this very hour we have been made the filth of the world, the scum of the universe!

For all who are guided by God's Spirit are God's sons. For you do not have a sense of servitude to fill you with dread again, but the consciousness of adopted sons by which we cry, "Abba," that is, "Father." The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirits that we are God's children; read more.
and if children, then also heirs, heirs of God and fellow-heirs with Christ if in reality we share His sufferings, so that we may share His glory too.

Stop forming intimate and inconsistent relations with unbelievers. What partnership can right-doing have with law-breaking, or how can light participate with darkness? What harmony exists between Christ and Belial, or what is common between a believer and an unbeliever? And what agreement can a temple of God make with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said: "I will live in them and walk in them, and I will be their God and they will be my people." read more.
Therefore: "'Come out of company with them, and separate from them,' the Lord has said, 'And stop touching what is unclean; then I will welcome you, I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons and daughters of mine,' The Lord Almighty said."

His mother and His brothers came to see Him, but they could not get in touch with Him, on account of the crowd. So it was reported to Him, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside; they want to see you." Then He answered them, "My mother and my brothers are those who listen to God's message and practice it."

but we do see Jesus, who was made inferior to the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by God's favor He might experience death for every human being. For it was appropriate for Him, who is the Final Goal and the First Cause of the universe, in bringing many children to glory, to make the Leader in their salvation perfect through the process of sufferings. For both He who is purifying them and those who are being purified all spring from one Father; so He is not ashamed to call them brothers,

Jesus answered them, "My teaching is not my own, but it comes from Him who sent me. If anyone is willing to keep on doing God's will, he will know whether my teaching comes from God, or merely expresses my own ideas.
