Elijah » Antitype of john the baptist
And he will go on before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to prepare for the Lord a people made ready."
and if you are willing to accept [it], he is Elijah, the one who is going to come.
And they said, {Some} [say] John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
And the disciples asked him, saying, "Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" And he answered [and] said, "Elijah indeed is coming, and will restore all [things]. But I say to you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did with him whatever they wanted. In the [same] way also the Son of Man is going to suffer [at] their hands."
And he said to them, "Elijah indeed does come first [and] restores all [things]. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man that he should suffer many [things] and be treated with contempt? But I tell you that indeed Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him."
And they asked him, "Then who [are] you? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not!" "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No!" Then they said to him, "Who are you, so that we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" He said, "I [am] 'the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, "Make straight the way of the Lord," ' just as Isaiah the prophet said." read more.

And whoever is not offended by me is blessed." Now [as] these were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in the houses of kings. But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and even more than a prophet! It is this man about whom it is written: 'Behold, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.' Truly I say to you, among [those] born of women there has not arisen [one] greater than John the Baptist. But the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. But from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven is treated violently, and the violent claim it. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John, and if you are willing to accept [it], he is Elijah, the one who is going to come. The one who has ears, let him hear! "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to one another, saying, 'We played the flute for you and you did not dance; we sang a lament and you did not mourn.' For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon!' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a man [who is] a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is vindicated by her deeds."

And summoning a certain two of his disciples, John sent [them] to the Lord, saying, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?" And [when] the men came to him, they said, "John the Baptist sent us to you, saying, 'Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?'" read more.
In that hour he healed many [people] of diseases and suffering and evil spirits, and he granted sight to many blind [people].
