Matthew 11:1 (show verse)

And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.

Matthew 11:2 (show verse)

Now when John heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples

Matthew 11:3 (show verse)

and said to him, "Are you the One who is to come, or shall we look for another?"

Matthew 11:4 (show verse)

And Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see:

Matthew 11:5 (show verse)

the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

Matthew 11:6 (show verse)

And blessed is he who is not offended because of me."

Matthew 11:7 (show verse)

As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

Matthew 11:8 (show verse)

But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

Matthew 11:9 (show verse)

Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

For this is he of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.'

Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Matthew 11:12 (show verse)

From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force.

Matthew 11:13 (show verse)

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.

Matthew 11:14 (show verse)

And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who is to come.

Matthew 11:15 (show verse)

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Matthew 11:16 (show verse)

"But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions,

'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'

Matthew 11:18 (show verse)

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'

Matthew 11:19 (show verse)

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is justified by her deeds."

Matthew 11:20 (show verse)

Then he began to rebuke the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.

Matthew 11:21 (show verse)

"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

Matthew 11:22 (show verse)

But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

Matthew 11:23 (show verse)

And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

Matthew 11:24 (show verse)

But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."

Matthew 11:25 (show verse)

At that time Jesus declared, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to babes.

Matthew 11:26 (show verse)

Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

Matthew 11:27 (show verse)

"All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Matthew 11:28 (show verse)

Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:29 (show verse)

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
