Elijah » Antitype of john the baptist
He is the one who will go before the Lord with the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, and to prepare the people to be ready for the Lord."
If you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.
They said, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
So the disciples asked him, "Why, then, do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" He answered them, "Elijah is indeed coming and will restore all things. But I tell you that Elijah has already come, yet people did not recognize him and treated him just as they pleased. In the same way, the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."
He told them, "Elijah is indeed coming first and will restore all things. Why, then, is it written that the Son of Man must suffer a great deal and be treated shamefully? But I tell you that Elijah has come, yet people treated him just as they pleased, as it is written about him."
So they asked him, "Well then, are you Elijah?" John said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No." "Who are you?" they asked him. "We must give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" He replied, "I am ""a voice crying out in the wilderness, "Prepare the Lord's highway,"' as the prophet Isaiah said." read more.

Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up a high mountain by themselves. Then Peter told Jesus, "Lord, it's good that we're here! If you want, I'll set up three shelters one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." He was still speaking when a bright cloud suddenly overshadowed them. A voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him. Keep on listening to him!" When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus came up to them and touched them, saying, "Get up, and stop being afraid." When they raised their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus all by himself. On their way down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Don't tell anyone about this vision until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead." So the disciples asked him, "Why, then, do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" He answered them, "Elijah is indeed coming and will restore all things. But I tell you that Elijah has already come, yet people did not recognize him and treated him just as they pleased. In the same way, the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he had been speaking to them about John the Baptist.

because he was teaching them like a person who had authority, and not like their scribes.
"The scribes and the Pharisees administer the authority of Moses, so do whatever they tell you and follow it, but stop doing what they do, because they don't do what they say.
Then he told them, "That is why every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom from heaven is like the master of a household who brings both new and old things out of his treasure chest."
So the disciples asked him, "Why, then, do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he asked, "How can the scribes say that the Messiah is David's son?
He called together all the high priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Messiah was to be born.
