They sent some Pharisees and Herodians to him to entrap him in argument.
Then the Pharisees went and made a plot to entrap him in argument. So they sent their disciples to him with the Herodians, to say to him, "Master, we know that you tell the truth, and teach the way of God with sincerity, regardless of the consequences, for you are impartial. So give us your opinion: Is it right to pay the poll-tax to the emperor, or not?"
"Master, Moses said, 'If a man dies without children his brother shall marry his widow, and raise up a family for him.' Now there were seven brothers among us. If, then, you have been raised to life with Christ, set your hearts on the things that are where Christ is, above, seated at God's right hand. Fix your thoughts on the things that are above, not on those that are on earth. For you have died, and your life now lies hidden with Christ in God.

When he said that, a dispute arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the meeting was divided. For the Sadducees hold that there is no resurrection and that there are no angels or spirits, while the Pharisees believe in all three.
