Pilate said to him, "What is truth?" After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again, and told them, "I find no crime in him.

When Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood. See to it yourselves." And all the people answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!" Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

When he had read the letter, he asked from what province he was, and when he learned that he was from Cilicia, he said, "I will hear you when your accusers arrive also." And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's Praetorium.
