Then went, out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the country about Jordan, and they were baptized by him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the pharisees and sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? read more.
Bring forth therefore fruits becoming: penitents: and do not say within your selves,


Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized by him: but John refused Him, saying, I have need to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Permit it now; for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. read more.
Then he permitted Him. And Jesus as soon as He was baptized came up from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened unto Him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and coming upon Him:

The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves saying, If we say, from heaven, He will reply, Why then did ye not believe him?

and preaching the baptism of repentance in order to the remission of sins; and all the country of Judea, and those of Jerusalem, went out to him, and were all baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

I indeed have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the holy Spirit. And in those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in Jordan: and as soon as He came up from the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me.

Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?

These things passed at Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Ye know the report that was spread through all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached: concerning Jesus of Nazareth,

And Jesus was then about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father, who sent me, gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life eternal: the things therefore which I speak, I so speak, as the Father hath directed me.

And going away again, the second time He prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass from me, unless I drink it, thy will be done.

And Jesus answering said unto him, Permit it now; for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.

but though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered: and being thus perfected,

Remember what I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have observed my word, they will also observe yours.

Let the same mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be as God. Yet He emptied himself, assuming the form of a servant, when made in the likeness of men: read more.
and being in the human state, He humbled himself, and was obedient even unto death, and that the death of the cross.
