For thus says lord LORD: I will also deal with thee as thou have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant.

not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, {because they did not continue in my covenant, and I disregarded (LXX/NT)} them, says LORD



Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says lord LORD: Do ye pollute yourselves according to the manner of your fathers, and play ye the harlot according to their abominations?

And I said to their sons in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers. Neither observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

But we will certainly perform every word that has gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our rulers, in the ci




Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying, This people comes near me with their mouth, and honors me with their lips, but their heart is far distant from me. And in vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.


I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are thou, that thou are afraid of man who shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass,

And when Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they were very afraid. And the sons of Israel cried out to LORD,

And why does LORD bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey. Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?




For from the least of them even to the greatest of them everyone is given to covetousness. And from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.


Ye do the works of your father. They said therefore to him, We were not begotten from fornication. We have one Father, God.

They answered to him, We are Abraham's seed, and have been in bondage to no man, ever. How can thou say, Ye will become free?

Thus says LORD, After this manner I will mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.


and are not as Moses. He put a veil over his face in order for the sons of Israel not to gaze on the end of the fading. But their minds were hardened, for to this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old testament, not being uncovered, which thing is abolished in Christ. But to this day when Moses is read, a veil lays upon their heart.

For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, not having known this and the voices of the prophets being read at every Sabbath, they fulfilled, having condemned him.


Remember, do not thou forget how thou provoked LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that thou went forth out of the land of Egypt, until ye came to this place, ye have been rebellious against LORD.

Ye have been rebellious against LORD from the day that I knew you.


I am indeed a Jewish man, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but reared in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, reared accurately in the paternal law, being a zealot of God, as ye all are today.

And they were informed about thee, that thou teach all the Jews throughout the nations desertion from Moses, telling them not to circumcise the children nor to walk by the customs.

For we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place, and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us.


Why then has this people of Jerusalem slid back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold firm deceit. They refuse to return.

Has a nation changed [its] gods, which yet are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid. Be ye very desolate, says LORD. For my people have committed two evils: They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.


Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for LORD has spoken. I have nourished and brought up sons, and they have rebelled against me.

But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked. Thou have grown fat. Thou have grown thick. Thou have become sleek. Then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.


And LORD said to Moses, How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?



who say, Stand by thyself, do not come near to me, for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burns all the day.

For not understanding the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to the righteousness of God.


ye who inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree, who kill the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?

Their land is also full of idols. They worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made,



And LORD said to Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people.


And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown up, that he went out to his brothers, and looked on their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brothers. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.


They reviled him, and said, Thou are a disciple of that man, but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God has spoken to Moses, but this man, we know not where he is from.


Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember thee, if I do not prefer Jerusalem above my chief joy.
