And he bowed down his head, and fell on his face. And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, Why have you beaten your ass these three times? Behold! I went out to be an enemy to you, because your way is perverse before Me. And the ass saw Me and turned from Me these three times. Unless she had turned from Me, surely now I also would have killed you and saved her alive.

And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed. And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the leaders of Balak, Go into your land, for Jehovah refuses to let me go with you. And the leaders of Moab rose up. And they went to Balak and said, Balaam refuses to come with us. read more.
And Balak sent leaders again, more and more honorable than those. And they came to Balaam and said to him, So says Balak the son of Zippor, Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me. For I will raise you up to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me. Please come then and curse this people for me. And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah my God, to do less or more. But please now stay here also this night so that I may know what more Jehovah will say to me. And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them. But still, the word which I shall say to you, that you shall do. And Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass, and went with the rulers of Moab. And God's anger was kindled because he went. Have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that I shall speak. And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kirjath-huzoth. And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam and to the leaders that were with him. And it happened on the next day Balak took Balaam and brought him up into the high places of Baal, so that from there he might see the edge of the people.
