Philippians 1:1 (show verse)

Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the holy ones in union with Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and ministerial servants:

Philippians 1:2 (show verse)

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:3 (show verse)

I thank my God for all my memories of you.

Philippians 1:4 (show verse)

I always offer prayer filled with joy for you,

and for your fellowship in participation of the good news from the first day until now.

I am confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.

It is right for me to feel this way on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart. Both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the good news you are all partakers with me of grace.

I pray that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment.

I would have you know, brothers that the things that happened to me turned out for the greater progress of the good news.

Most of the brothers trust in the Lord and boldly speak the word of God without fear because of my bonds.

Some preach Christ from envy and strife and some from good will.

The latter ones do it out of love, knowing that I am set (appointed) (placed here) for the defense of the good news.

But the others proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition without pure motives, thinking to cause me great suffering and distress in my imprisonment.

What then? That in every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is proclaimed! For that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice!

Philippians 1:19 (show verse)

For I know that this will turn out to my redemption through your prayer and the provision of the spirit (vital principles) (mind) of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:20 (show verse)

I will not be put to shame according to my earnest expectation and hope. With all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in me, whether by life or by death.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

If I live in the flesh this will bring fruit from my labor. I do not know what to choose.

I am hard pressed between the two. I have the desire to depart and be with Christ for it is far better.

Do not be frightened by opponents. This is evidence of destruction for them and salvation for you from God.

It has been granted to you in behalf of Christ. Not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf.

You have the same conflict that you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
