Now at the feast [of the Passover] the governor was in the habit of setting free any one prisoner whom the people chose.
Now at the [Passover] feast Pilate used to set free for them any one prisoner whom they requested.
I will therefore chastise Him and deliver Him amended (reformed, taught His lesson) and release Him. For it was necessary for him to release to them one prisoner at the Feast.
But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover. So shall I release for you the King of the Jews?”
