A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for blows. A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.


The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

The violence of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do justice.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing let us be with these things content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into destruction and perdition.

Therefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

But were mixed among the nations, and learned their works. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

And you shall consume all the people whom the LORD your God shall deliver you; your eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto you.

And I will set your bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and you shall drive them out before you. You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me: for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto you.

Observe that which I command you this day: behold, I drive out before you the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you go, lest it be for a snare in the midst of you:

Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that you love the LORD your God. Else if you do in any way go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you: Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

It is a snare to the man to declare something is holy, and afterward to reconsider his vows.


But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.

For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also many vanities: but you fear God.

As a thorn goes up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.




The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge: but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.




Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish does not so.


The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.


O that you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldens you that you answer? I also could speak as you do: if your soul were in my soul's place, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like unto him.

Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.

The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is wicked madness. A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
