For it is written in the Law of Moses, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain [to keep it from eating the grain].” Is it [only] for oxen that God cares?




Behold, I establish My covenant or pledge with you and with your descendants after you And with every living creature that is with you -- "whether the birds, the livestock, or the wild beasts of the earth along with you, as many as came out of the ark -- "every animal of the earth.



Your righteousness is like the mountains of God,
Your judgments are like the great deep.
O Lord, You preserve man and beast.


They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild donkeys quench their thirst there.


The young lions roar after their prey
And seek their food from God.


Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 [innocent] persons, who do not know the difference between their right and left hand [and are not yet accountable for sin], as well as many [blameless] animals?”

In her mating season who can restrain her?
No males seeking her need to weary themselves;
In her month they will find her [looking for them].


“Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass?
Or does the ox low over his fodder?


“Who sent out the wild donkey free [from dependence on man]?
And who has loosed the bonds of the wild donkey [to survive in the wild],


For the palace has been abandoned, the populated city deserted;
The hill [of the city] and the watchtower have become caves [for wild animals] forever,
A delight for wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,


“And the wild donkeys stand on the barren heights;
They pant for air like jackals,
Their eyesight fails
Because there is no grass.


For they have gone up to Assyria,
Like a wild donkey wandering alone and taking her own way;
Ephraim has hired lovers (pagan allies).

You are clothed with honor and majesty -- " [You are the One] Who covers Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain or a tent, Who lays the beams of the upper room of His abode in the waters [above the firmament], Who makes the clouds His chariot, Who walks on the wings of the wind, read more.
Who makes winds His messengers, flames of fire His ministers. You laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved forever. You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At Your rebuke they fled; at the voice of Your thunder they hastened away. The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place which You appointed for them. You have set a boundary [for the waters] which they may not pass over, that they turn not again to deluge the earth. He sends forth springs into the valleys; their waters run among the mountains.
