And the two angels came to Sodom at evening; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom, and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground,

And it came to pass when he made mention of the ark of God, Eli fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck broke, and he died; for he was an old man and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

They that sat in the gate spoke against me, and I was the song of the drunkards.

She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words, saying,

Thus said the LORD unto me: Go and stand in the gate of the sons of the people by which the kings of Judah come in and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem; and say unto them, Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:


that chant to the sound of the flute and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David;

and I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation; and I will cause sackcloth to be brought up upon all loins and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son and the end thereof as a bitter day.

Take away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy instruments.

They that sat in the gate spoke against me, and I was the song of the drunkards.


In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with a wineskin; he stretched out his hand with the scorners.
