and found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla (for Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome) and came unto them.
At that time Rezin, king of Syria, recovered Elath to Syria and drove the Jews from Elath; and the Syrians came to Elath and dwelt there unto this day.
And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.
They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them at once; they have burned up all the meeting places of the people of God in the earth.
They have said, Come and let us cut them off from being a people that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
and brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city
