If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. If a thief be found breaking in, and be smitten that he dies, there shall no blood be shed for him. If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or donkey, or sheep; he shall restore double.

Or if it be known that the ox was accustomed to gore in time past, and its owner has not kept it in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.

Then it shall be, because he has sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he has deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found,

And he that kills an animal shall make it good; animal for animal.


Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

And your eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
