[To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do it for your name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you. O the hope of Israel, its savior in time of trouble, why should you be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turns aside to tarry for a night? Why should you be as a man confused, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet you, O LORD, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; leave us not.
And David's heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in what I have done: and now, I beseech you, O LORD, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.
For your name's sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity; for it is great.
We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against you.

Yet you are just in all that is brought upon us; for you have done right, but we have done wickedly:
And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that you our God has punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and has given us such deliverance as this;
And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity:

Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my soul is troubled; my heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaves, at home there is as death.
For I will declare my iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but whosoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.

You meet him that rejoices and works righteousness, those that remember you in your ways: behold, you are angry; for we have sinned: in those ways is continuance, and we shall be saved. But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
