Thematic Bible

And he said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many. And he sent his servant at the hour of supper, to say to those who had been invited, Come, for all things are now ready. And they all, with one consent, began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a farm, and I must go and see it; I pray you, have me excused. read more.
And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them; I pray you, have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and, for this reason, I can not come. And that servant came and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house was angry, and said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and the maimed, the lame and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord said to his servant, Go out into the roads, and among the hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be full. For I say to you, that not one of those men who have been invited, shall taste of my supper.

Again, he sent other servants, saying, Tell those who have been invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast. But they were careless, and went away, one to his farm, another to his merchandise. And the rest laid hold of his servants, and abused them, and killed them. And when that king heard of it, he was angry, and sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his servants: The marriage feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Go, therefore, to the cross-ways, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find. And those servants went out into the roads, and brought together all, as many as they found, both bad and good: and the banquet-room was filled with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man that had not put on a wedding-robe. And he said to him, Friend, how came you in hither without a wedding-robe? And he was silent. Then the king said to his servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and throw him into the darkness without: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few chosen.
