Trial » The lord trying
And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
The fining-pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, who are present here, to offer willingly to thee.
Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.
Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.
The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD'S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try the children of men. The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

Every man's work will be made manifest: for the day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will try every man's work, of what sort it is. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Then forthwith they departed from him who were about to examine him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty why he was accused by the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
