so that thou art no longer a bond servant, but a son: and if a son, then an heir of God thro' Christ. When you did not know God, you did service to those, who in reality are no Gods; but now that you know God, or rather that you are favoured by him, how can ye turn again to the weak and beggarly elements of the law, to which you desire again to be in bondage?
Jesus answered them, I declare unto you, whosoever committeth sin, is a slave to sin. a slave has no right to be in the house for life: but the son is settled there. if the son therefore shall make you free, you will be free indeed.
for the spirit you have received is not servile to keep you still in fear; but it is the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, that is, father.
Consider what proof the father has given us of his love, in allowing us to be called the sons of God: therefore the world does not know us, because it knew him not. beloved, we are now the sons of God, tho' it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know, that when this change shall be, his immediate presence will give us a divine resemblance.
and therefore hope to be removed from this slavish condition of mortality to the free inheritance of divine glory.
that you may be without reproach, the inoffensive spotless children of God in the midst of a depraved and perverse generation (among whom you should shine as stars in the world,
beloved, we are now the sons of God, tho' it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know, that when this change shall be, his immediate presence will give us a divine resemblance.

that being justified by his favour, we should have the inheritance of eternal life, according to our hopes.
wherefore God was willing to give the heirs of promise a stronger proof of the immutability of his counsel, by the intervention of an oath:
for both he that sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified, are all deriv'd from one: for which cause he is not asham'd to call them brethren, saying, "I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee."
but Jesus answered the man that told him, who is my mother? and who are my brothers? and holding out his hand towards his disciples, see there, said he, my mother, and my brothers. for whosoever shall do the will of my father, who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.
for whom he before approv'd, he predispos'd to follow the example of his son, who was to conduct them all as their elder brother;
whence it was necessary he should be in all things like his brethren; that he might be a merciful high priest, and faithfully discharge the divine office of expiating the sins of the people.
as for us, we know, that we have passed from a state of death to that of life, because we love our brethren: he that does not love his brother, is in a destructive state.
let us love him; since he first loved us. if a man says he loves God, and yet hates his brother, he is a lyar: for he that does not love his brother, who is before his eyes, how can he love God who is invisible?
then I heard a loud voice, which cry'd in the heaven, "the time of salvation, and power, the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ are now come: for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, is cast down.
Therefore now, you are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and domesticks of God's family,
therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good offices to all men, especially to the family of believers.
who was faithful to him that constituted him such, as Moses likewise was faithful in all his administration of God's house. but as the architect is of much greater dignity than the house he has made; so the glory which Christ received was greater than that of Moses. no house is without a builder; now he that built the whole house of Israel is God.read more.
besides Moses throughout his whole administration acted in quality of a servant, representing to the people what he was order'd to say. but Christ govern'd his own house in quality of son and heir, and 'tis we that are his house, provided we stedfastly persevere unto the end in the publick profession of that hope, in virtue of which we glory.
