They would have none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

But you have ignored all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes;

Then said they, Come, and let us devise plots against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us attack him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

Better is a poor and wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no longer be admonished.
