For this cause I write these things while absent, that when present I may not use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord gave me for edification, and not for destruction.
For even if I should boast still more highly of our authority, which the Lord gave us for building you up, and not pulling you down, I should not be put to shame;
For there was no one among them that was in want; for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, and laid them at the feet of the apostles; and distribution was made to every one, according as he had need.
And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them, and said, It doth not seem to us proper, that we should leave the word of God, and provide for tables. And what was said pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus a proselyte of Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

nor from men sought we glory, either from you, or from others; though we might have used authority as apostles of Christ.
