The next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In the letter he wrote:Put Uriah at the front of the fiercest fighting, then withdraw from him so that he is struck down and dies. Then the men of the city came out and attacked Joab, and some of the men from David’s soldiers fell in battle; Uriah the Hittite also died.
But a man drew his bow without taking special aim and struck the king of Israel through the joints of his armor. So he said to his charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
The archers shot King Josiah, and he said to his servants, “Take me away, for I am severely wounded!”
