And when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather an uproar was developing, after taking water, he washed his hands in front of the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man. See ye to it. And having answered, all the people said, His blood be on us, and on our children. Then he released Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus he delivered him so that he would be crucified.
