6 Bible Verses about Bitter Herbs

For the lips of a strange woman drip honey, and her palate is smoother than oil; but afterward she is as bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

You have known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor; my enemies are all before You. Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness; and I looked for some to mourn with me, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They also gave Me gall for my food; and in My thirst they gave Me vinegar to drink.

He has caused the arrows of His quiver to enter into my inward parts. I was a mockery to all my people, their song all the day. He has filled me with bitterness and made me drunk with wormwood.

And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roasted with fire, and unleavened bread. They shall eat it with bitter herbs.

They shall keep it the fourteenth day of the second month at evening, eating it with unleavened cakes and bitter herbs.

And I will pour on the house of David, and on the people of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of prayers. And they shall look on Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be bitter over Him, as the bitterness over the first-born.
