The days are coming, declares Jehovah, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch. He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.
In that day the Branch of Jehovah will be beautiful and glorious. And the fruit of the earth will be the delight (pride) (joy) and the adornment of the survivors of Israel.
There must go forth a twig out of the stump of Jesse. A branch (sprout) (shoot) (descendant) from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of Jehovah will rest on him. The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and respect for Jehovah will be his. He will delight in the reverence of Jehovah. But with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth. At that time I will choose as king a righteous descendant of David. That king will do what is right and just throughout the land. The people of Judah and of Jerusalem will be rescued and will live in safety. The city will be called Jehovah is Our Righteousness.'
Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who sit before you. They are men that are a sign. I will bring forth my servant the Branch (Sprout)!
Say to him: 'Jehovah of Hosts says, See here, the man whose name is the Branch (Sprout) (Shoot) (Bud). For he will branch out (sprout) from where he is and he will build the Temple of Jehovah. Yes, he will build the Temple of Jehovah. He will receive the glory, and will sit and rule upon his throne. He will be a priest upon his throne and the counsel of peace will be between the two offices.
He made his home in Nazareth. Thus the prophecy came true: He [Jesus] will be called a Nazarene.
