I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me and I in him, he beareth much fruit; but, separate from me, ye can do nothing.

and every one that beareth fruit, he purifieth it, that it may bear more fruit.

If any one abide not in me, he is cast out as a branch, and is withered: and they gather and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

Well; they were broken off for unbelief, and thou standest by faith. Be not high-minded, but fear. For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed left he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God! Toward them that fell severity; but toward thee goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: else shalt thou also be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, shall be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again. For if thou wert cut off from the naturally wild olive-tree, and grafted contrary to nature into a good olive-tree; how much more shall these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive-tree?

For if the first-fruits be holy, so is the lump: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
