who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from the present evil world, according to the will of God our Father;

We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth under the dominion of the Evil One.

And all things are from God, who reconciled us to himself by Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; seeing that in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation. We then are ambassadors for Christ; as though God were exhorting you by us, in behalf of Christ we entreat you, Be reconciled to God.

Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore chooseth to be a friend of the world, becometh an enemy of God.

Love not the world, nor the things in the world. If any one loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him;

Be not strangely yoked with unbelievers; for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? Or what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Beliar? Or what part hath a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God said: "I will dwell among them, and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."read more.

that ye may be blameless and pure, children of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom ye shine as luminaries in the world,

Set your mind on the things above, not on things on the earth.

teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in the present world;

Pure religion and undefiled before God, the Father, is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep ones self unspotted from the world.

as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts in your ignorance;

Beloved, I exhort you, as sojourners and strangers, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

For sufficient is the time past to have wrought the will of the gentiles, when ye walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revelings, carousings, and abominable idolatries;

Charge those who are rich in this world that they be not highminded, nor place their hope in uncertain riches, but in God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good,

Then Jesus said to his disciples, Truly do I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

And Jesus seeing him said, How hardly do they that have riches enter the kingdom of God!

And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not where to store my crops. And he said, This will I do; I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I store all my crops and my goods;read more.
and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry. But God said to him, Fool! this night will thy soul he required of thee; and whose will those things be which thou hast laid up? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose or forfeit himself?

For what will a man be profited, if be gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

For what doth it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

And what was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

For Demas forsook me, because he loved the present world, and went to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

but when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, there is no need of writing to you; for ye yourselves know full well, that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. When they are saying, Peace and safety; then doth sudden destruction come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.read more.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief; for ye all are sons of light, and sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Let us not sleep, then, as others, but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunken, are drunken in the night; but let us, as we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation; for God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
