But the Levites according to the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

As for the sons of Merari, thou shall number them by their families, by their fathers' houses. From thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old thou shall number them, each man who enters upon the service, to do the work of the tent of meeting.
